The Goetchius House is a situated at 405 Broadway at The Historic District's 4th Street fountain creating a grand entrance to the magnolia tree lined street lined with preserved antebellum homes. The Goetchius House is just a few blocks from Uptown, Golden Park, the Civic Center, Science Center, Convention Center, other park facilities and is positioned next to the River Walk that travels to Ft. Moore. This will be your new essential life indulgence.
The Goetchius House was built in 1839 by Richard Goetchius who came to Columbus as a successful architect and builder and is listed on the Register of National Historic properties. Inspired by New Orleans architecture, he built this home with a wide entry hall, high ceilings, decorative iron and ornamental medallions for his bride, Miss Mary Anne Bennett. For roughly 1919 to 1969, the house was occupied by father and son pediatricians, Dr. Blanchard and Dr. Blanchard who were beloved in the community. The house was disassembled into 7 pieces and was relocation in 1969 from its original location at 204 11th Street to its current location at 405 Broadway in the Historic District in 1969 by John Woodruff Jr, a founding member of the Columbus Historic Society. It retains the time tested craftsmanship and details. Original hand carved cornices, plaster crown moldings, magnificent chandeliers and stunning historic stained glass are just a few of the features that take you back to antebellum era elegance in a time before Lincoln was President. The vast grand courtyard behind the house contains a historic fountain and a view of the Chattahoochee river.
The Goetchius house is part of the rich history of the Columbus community, and reflects the warm hospitality of the South. During its operation from 1969 until roughly 2010, it continuously hosted countless weddings, proms, graduations, birthdays, corporate events and other special occasions for a span over 4 decades until it laid silent for a dozen years. Matthew and Renata are the owners and stewards of the property, and the fifth owners since 1839. They performed a full historic rehabilitation and now carry the torch of responsibility to bring this treasure back to live through the labor of love... just like their predecessors. The house is for the community to remember days by gone, and for visitors today to create new special moments to relish and share.

THE STEWARDS OF THE GOETCHIUS HOUSE
Renata Martoni is a Brazilian made by Italians. She was born and raised in a small rural town located in the southern countryside of Brazil. Renata is multi-lingual, and had aspirations to pursue her passion in design. She outgrew her rural hometown and lived in major cities such as São Paulo, San Francisco and Miami, and is recognized as an international top Interior Designer. Renata aspires to do more than making beautiful houses, she wanted to make beautiful homes for people to enjoy with their loved ones. Now, her passion is being fulfilled with The Goetchius House at 405 Broadway. Renata has a natural ease in sharing her heart in ways that bring a soul in the creation of beautiful places. Her personality is intoxicating, her natural happiness is contagious, and her husband says that her smile lights up a room (it still lights up his heart and puts a twinkle in his eyes).
Matthew Lapides is a consummate entrepreneur from historic Annapolis, Maryland. His life experiences have allowed him to live in a variety of cities both in the U.S. and China. After graduating from Lehigh University in 1991, he joined a family business. Within a year, he quickly knew that he needed to forge his own future and create his own life path, and that's what he did. Matthew is a creator, and spent the past 30 years building businesses that engage him in activities that challenge his personal and professional growth. He is the founder of a registered investment adviser firm named Ethos Wealth Management, a state licensed construction firm named Casa Tua Construction Group and Sprout Publishing. He also served in executed roles with Merrill Lynch and a private bank from more than a dozen years, successfully sold a bicycle manufacturing and distribution business in the 1990's and spent years in mainland China creating Sino-American joint ventures in various industries.
While Renata provides the “What”, Matthew provides the “How”. Together, they are on a mission with a vision, purpose and dreams. They are more than a couple who met by happenstance, they are business partners, best friends and hopeless romantics. Renata and Matthew have come together with a common vision in helping to create a better life and environment for the community, for the ones they love and for themselves. With two boys, now 14 and 25, and two dogs, there never seems to be a dull moment in life... just how they like things!
